Question: I’ve read that the Keywords Meta tag is no longer a factor in search results particularly in the top search engines although most sites still seem to use it. Is this necessary?
Answer: Yes, you are correct. Both Google and Bing have publically said a few years back that they IGNORE the META KEYWORDS tag. That said, other HTML tags are very very important for SEO – namely –
TITLE tag – most important.
META DESCRIPTION tag – heavily influences your description on Google.
A HREF – link tag.
H1, H2 – tag.
Other tags are also important, but less powerful. We will investigate the various weights of the HTML tags vs. keywords in our session on HTML page tags and search engine optimization (tomorrow!).
