Question: Is yelp becoming a good directory to use?
Answer: Yelp is probably, after Google Places, the most successful local search engine. Citysearch.com is also common. What I suggest is do some Google searches, that create Google Places listings to appear, then click on those (competitor) listings, then drill down to see what local listings competitors are appearing on.
You can then ‘reverse engineer’ their strategy, and try to list on them. You will often find Yelp showing up in this way. Similarly, do many of your keywords searches and if you see yelp.com showing up prominently, that’s another indicate that Yelp is important.
It’s always customer- and search-engine driven to figure out who is important. Yelp is definitely something to watch!
