Question: You may touch on this later in the training, but how many keywords can go in the title? What about page content? Do you only want one page per keyword or can you have multiple pages within your site with the same keywords?
Answer: For SEO purposes, your best practice is to keep your TITLE tag to LESS THAN 69 visible characters, and LESS THAN 80 indexed characters, with the MOST IMPORTANT keywords on the far left of the tag. The TITLE tag is the most powerful tag on any page; the HOME PAGE TITLE tag, as we shall see in the Page Tags SEO class, is the MOST POWERFUL tag of any website.
As for page content, Google clearly prefers pages that are VERY KEYWORD heavy, keyword dense. We will look at the Motorcycle Page on Geico.com (http://tinyurl.com/2w4uhh7). Do a CTRL+F for the keyword MOTORCYCLE and see how many occurrences of the keyword there are. Read the page OUT LOUD to yourself. This is heavy, clunky, Google-friendly, SEO-friendly prose.
You CAN and SHOULD have multiple pages that target the SAME keyword family but have DIFFERENT CONTENT. So, if you target Motorcycle Insurance – you might have one landing page on Motorcycle Insurance, but many many subordinate pages, blog pages, news releases, etc., that focus on it as well.
That said what you DO NOT want to do is have ONE page that attempts to have TWO keyword focus groups. That lowers the page keyword density, lowers its focus, etc. Nigerian proverb: Man who goes after two mice catches none. SEO page that goes after two keyword families, gets none.
