Question: I noticed last night that our site is at the top under “starred results” — which is good. What does it mean and how did it get there? ask for” couple retreats?
Answer: Starred results mean that you are SIGNED IN. In general, SIGN OUT when trying to evaluate your searches. So in that sense they are not helpful.
Moving forward, there is some theory that STARRED RESULTS are part of a transition to social search. Google monitors everything that its users do on the web; so if a site gets starred frequently that may help. We don’t know.
For now, just remember to SIGN OUT as you do your SEO searches, as you want to see virgin results, not results customized just for you. The latter will distort your vision of what is actually doing well on Google!
