Question: How important is the correlation between your landing pages and your main website.
Question: Is it bad to repeat content with only slightly different text in different landing pages?
Question: is there a rule to how many extra pages you can create to your site?
Answer: The relationship between the HOME PAGE and the LANDING PAGES of a website is CRITICAL for SEO. As we shall learn in our class on Website Structure, your HOME PAGE is your CROWN JEWEL and best asset for SEO. So, as you can see on Geico.com, the HOME PAGE is used to launch the landing pages. First, define concrete, keyword-specific landing pages Second, link TO your landing pages FROM your home page, using H1 / H2 and A HREF tags. This is a powerful signal to Google about what your site focuses on. It’s critical!
Landing pages should not be cookie cutters of each other, but you can have a fair amount of structural repetition. I would say somewhere in the neighborhood of 30% repetition is OK; with 70% being unique to the landing page.
In terms of creating extra pages, the SKY IS THE LIMIT. Google heavily rewards sites with LOTS of new content, FREQUENT updates, and KEYWORD HEAVY content. That’s why I always recommend a BLOG for a website; it’s a great, cheap, easy way to generate LOTS of new content, frequently.
