Question: Our web design firm said to not use our competitors’ names as keywords because Google and other search engines frown upon that and you can actually hurt your rankings. But, you just said the opposite.
Answer: I disagree with this. Trademarked competitor names cannot be used in AdWords, and of course do need to pay attention to legal issues. But above-board, honest, one-to-one comparisons with competitors are great for SEO. And bidding on your competitors names can be effective in AdWords. Just don’t go overboard.
