Question: Thanks! Do links from social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Flickr, etc.) count?
Answer: As I indicated in the class, we aren’t completely sure. Google and Bing haven’t announced that they pay attention to Social Media links such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Delicious, and other sites. But it stands to reason since Google is indexing this content, that probably they DO matter, and DO improve your SEO.
So I would definitely make Social Media part of my SEO strategy and include attempts at building social media links as part of my link building. Just recognize that high PageRank sites in your keyword community – a.k.a. – traditional ink targets – are probably MORE POWERFUL than social media links, so for link building make them a higher priority.
