Question: In my mind, I’m always thinking people won’t take advantage of a free session because they fear being sold. That’s said, I’m thinking of replacing my free audio with a “Contact me for a free goal setting session” and see what happens. Any thoughts?
You had also said at one point to “let Google know it’s a blog.” I assume you mean by creating a directory called “blog?” I’m not sure how to do that w/ a WordPress site and the blog on the home page? Actually, I don’t think it’s possible. I guess I could do it on the sitemap…
Answer: Well, first of all, the great thing about the web is you can EXPERIMENT. Try it and see. Use Google Analytics to see the click patterns and your own registration process to see registrations.
I personally do not think of free as a negative thing. Our website solves problems, and I find that most of the people who land on it are actually EAGER to have someone help them. I wouldn’t make any icons overly cheesy or salesy – I think that that can backfire… But I do think it is valuable to communicate that there is ‘no obligation’ involved in reaching out.
So verbiage, like ‘Contact me for a free / no obligation consultation’ are good. But experiment – your customers may be different than ours. On the other hand if you do NOT clearly state that reaching out is FREE, then some people are definitely not going to reach out. I think of most Websites as a starting point, with the REAL objective being getting that potential customer to REACH OUT and start a conversation. Most of the real work isn’t done on the website.
As for your second question, putting it in a BLOG directory is a good way to tell Google it is a blog. Google really cares first and foremost about the frequency of postings. You can also register your blog with Google, but I personally do not like this, because then you are segregated into the BLOG tab on Google, which isn’t nearly as important as the main web tab. Most people do not do anything complex on Google – they just search. So I just recommend putting your blog posts in a directory called ‘blog.’
