Question: We are in the middle of a website refresh and were trying to keep the site clear of clutter so our homepage is pretty clean. Does this hinder our SEO?
Answer: On the issue of CLEAN home pages: Google STRONGLY prefers TEXT HEAVY, KEYWORD HEAVY pages. It’s not Apple. HUMANS may like clean pages, but Google likes text. That said, you can often put the fun, simple graphics ABOVE the fold and the text heavy stuff below the fold. Your pages have to cater to two audiences: Google and the humans; they have different needs and preferences, and both are important.
As for doing a remodel, sometimes you have to live in the house and remodel it at the same time. Actually frequent but logical changes to your home page are actually good for Google.
