Question: Also asked yesterday about getting into “shopping results” for Google. Does that help with SEO?
Question: Noticed that most of the diretories have a very low ranking for our industry. Does that mean don’t use?
Answer: Google Shopping results are governed by the Google Merchant Center (http://www.google.com/merchants/). It’s relatively easy. 1) Sign up for an account, 2) create an XML product feed by following the instructions. Be sure that your products have keyword-heavy names and descriptions. 3) Solicit / encourage reviews. Google prefers products that have many reviews.
As for the directories, in some industries yes they will have low PageRanks. Remember we don’t have full and accurate information on true PageRank – the only real data is from the Google Toolbar, and most people feel it is a very rough estimate, indeed. So identify link targets in your industry, prioritize them by 1) their fit to your keyword families, and 2) their PageRank. But remember any link is basically a good link.
