Question: Do dates on reviews for a website have a bearing on ranking (ex: review dated 2008 compared to a review dated 2010) or is it just the fact that you are getting reviews that boost your ranking?
Answer: Unfortunately the algorithms that control Local Search systems such as Google Places and/or Yelp are less well understood than the primary algorithms that control search results such as Google or Bing.
That said, common sense will tell you that to appear HIGH on the Google Places results –
Basically do anything and everything you can to encourage ‘natural’ reviews for Google Places and/or Yelp.
