Question: Can you nest the h2 inside the h1 and is there any advantage to doing that?
Answer: I would nest an h2 inside an h1 – that’s sort of bizarre. But you CAN double nest in the sense of having an h2 and then an a href. GEICO does this on their home page. The home page is a gateway to the other pages on the website.
In addition for formatting reasons, you can nest an H2 with a FONT tag or SPAN tag if you are using style sheets. Google doesn’t care about style sheets, FONTs, definitions using CSS, etc. – so you can have your cake and eat it too. Make your website LOOK anyway you like stylistically for the humans, but use the H1 / H2 tag for Google purposes.
