Question: I work for a Software company. I originally started a twitter account to promote our blog, but now I am re-thinking this. Should we stick with it or am I the equivalent of a Dry Cleaner?
Answer: The answer of course is ‘it all depends.’ Twitter CAN be used to promote a blog, similarly to how Whole Foods does this. In most cases like that, Twitter is used to promote blogs that have timely information.
The best blog-related use of Twitter that I have seen occurs in fast-moving areas like politics. People want to be updated on the NEWS so a quick Twitter feed that posts alerts on new blog topics, makes sense. That is essentially what news organizations like CNN or the New York Times do on Twitter.
If your blog / Twitter relationship is timely, then that is an idea. I would also ‘poll’ your existing users. Simply ASK THEM on Twitter if they read your posts, what do they find interesting that sort of thing. The user / reader is always right!
