Question: My company will be doing a web site re-design. I have read that I need to get the site indexed. The re-design won’t take place for another year. Do you think I should go ahead and get it indexed now with the current site map? Then how will I be able to change it to add the new site map once the site is re-design? A year is awhile to not show up on the search engines as we don’t right now.
Answer: The perfect is the enemy of the good, according to Voltaire. So rather than wait for a perfect website, I would definitely recommend creating an XML sitemap and uploading it NOW. The other important recommendation is to get Google Analytics and install it NOW, so you begin getting data.
A website is never perfect; you have to launch it, live with it, update it. Think of your website as a living breathing entity that expresses your company and interacts with customers.
