Question: I understand the concept of title and description tags but I’m still confused about what humans will see on the web page.
Answer: A few tags are ‘invisible’ to human searchers, but matter. First and foremost, the TITLE tag is almost invisible – governing only the tiny line of text at the top of the browser, that most people ignore or hardly pay attention to at all. But the TITLE tag is hugely important for SEO. Put your major keywords in it. The META DESCRIPTION tag is invisible to humans on your web pages, but every visible on Google, as it generally governs the text that Google displays in the search result. The IMG ALT attribute is also generally invisible to humans, but is a minor tag that you should deploy keywords into.
Other tags, such as the very important H1 / H2 family and the A HREF (anchor) tags are visible to both Google and humans, and are very important to SEO. Still others like the <B&g; and <Strong> tags are both important and visible, though noticeably less than the TITLE and H1/H2 tags.
