Question: Would it be more important to have 100’s of good to average keywords or a few great keywords
Answer: Keywords are the foundation to successful SEO. What I recommend is – 1) volume: Keywords that are used by your potential customers in high volume, 2) value – keywords that your competitors see as valuable by bidding up the CPC / cost per click as measured by the Google tools, and 3) value to you – the value that you place on a keyword.
By the latter, I am asking you to take a keyword query and decide if it strongly indicates a potential customer. If the answer is YES, then that becomes a major keyword for you. That said, then it is all about FOCUS. So focusing on a fewer, better quality keywords will outperform attempting to focus on hundred. In fact, Google forces you to make choices and thereby focus your website by weaving these target keywords into it.
