Question: For Google rankings, is it better to have an html-based website versus flash-based? If yes, why?
Answer: Google doesn’t see FLASH. Adobe FLASH is fantastic for humans – it creates incredible graphics, movable websites, and tons of really really cool stuff. But the sad reality is that Google ignores it. It doesn’t hurt you, but it doesn’t help you.
What is to be done? One solution is to build your Flash above the fold and build SEO-friendly text below the Flash. Another is to have some Google friendly pages on your website, beginning with the home page. And other FLASH pages that are not designed to be Google friendly. You bring Google traffic in via the Google friendly, text heavy pages, and the WOW them with Flash.
It can be worked around, but Flash is just not SEO friendly.
