Question: How much does the user’s geographic location and previous search history effect the organic results that show up on Google?
Answer: The user’s geographic location and search history are having a stronger and stronger impact on search results. Indeed, some people say that there is no more a single ‘rank’ on Google but rather multiple ranks.
One implication is Google Local / Google Places. Where possible, you definitely want to get listed in this service especially if local search is important to you. In terms of personalized search results, there is little you can do. But do be sure to turn ‘off’ personalized search when searching Google to measure your rank, as if not you can get a misleading result.
