Question: Does the display URL have to be working/activated?
Answer: No, the display URL in AdWords does NOT have to be fully functional. The domain must be functional and must match the destination. So if your domain is ‘coolpets.com’ then your ads must use that domain in their display URL’s and the visitor must land on that domain.
But after the domain, the display URL can be anything. You can use any fun, snappy keyword you want and it does NOT have to match the actual landing page URL. So use ‘coolpets.com/free-offer’ and you can send them to ‘coolpets.com/ads/Google/freeby.html’ for example.
