Question: Why do you want to PPC for words that you don’t rank highly on?
Answer: I teach that your SEO and your AdWords should work together. So you need to think about this strategically. When should you advertise? How does that intersect with your free SEO strategy?
First, do your SEO and get as much organic positioning via the SERP as you can for free on Google vs. your target keywords. Then, if you have budget, advertise and use AdWords / PPC for those keywords that you do not do well on.
Example – an attorney who is on Page 1 Pos 3 for ‘medical malpractice attorney san francisco’ might NOT advertise for that keyword because he already is on the page. But if he doesn’t appear for a different phrase like ‘personal injury attorney san francisco,’ then he might pay to advertise for that phrase.
Bottom line: Use PPC / AdWords advertisment to compensate for your SEO weaknesses. This is the simplest way to combine the two.
