Question: Can you refer me to some information on SEM, how is it different from SEO?
Answer: SEO stands of course for ‘search engine optimization.’ SEM stands for ‘search engine marketing.’ Aren’t acronyms fun? Many people use them interchangeably, but they actually have different meanings. ‘SEO’ is mainly about the free stuff – about ways to reach out to Google, Yahoo, and/or Bing to get to the top of their free listings.
SEM, in contrast, is one level ‘up’ and usually encompasses BOTH the free stuff (SEO) and the PAID stuff such as AdWords or Pay-per-click advertising. SEM is more about your total marketing strategy and is thus close to another term ‘internet marketing.’ Nowadays social media media can also be seen as part of the mix.
