Question: Can you hide text and does it get crawled for Google ranking?
Answer: Yes, you can do this. And yes it does get indexed – usually. BUT. This is NOT a good idea. Google is very smart and they do not like you to play games like this. Showing Google one set of text and users another is a huge No-No. So this runs the real risk of having your site pulled from the index.
The worst thing you can do is participate in a paid link farm. That can lead to de-indexing. The second worst thing is to play games like this – white text on white background, tiny type, etc. – that shows Google one thing and users another. It is very high risk.
Bottom line: Why do this? Build beefy, keyword-heavy content for your website and use Page Tags effectively – everyone will be happy: you, Google, and your users.
