Question: I had attended your webinar last Friday and found it to be very helpful. I’ve already started using a few of the tools you suggested and look forward to our next campaign to see the results. We will be moving our external website to Sharepoint later this summer. I’ve never used Sharepoint before and am unaware of any issues or potential opportunities it may have with regard to SEO. The developers tell me that it will act similarly to our current IIS system but I was wondering if you had any advise, tips or things to look out for when it comes to Sharepoint?
Answer: As you check out Sharepoint from Microsoft, don’t miss the new http://www.iis.net/download/SEOToolkit (SEO toolkit). I haven’t used either as we run on Apache.
That said, the important thing to realize is that Google cares about HTML output not the process by which it is created. So with any CMS or website management system, the process of creation is unimportant. Google wants stable, keyword rich HTML pages that embed the keywords strategically in the output. Create some test pages with Sharepoint, View Source, and see if they follow proven principles of SEO like the ones I teach in the class.
If so, it’s a winner.
