Question: If you build your own blog using html pages, as opposed to a database driven CMS system like WordPress, can your blog be set up as an RSS feed?
Answer: Either one can be an RSS feed, which is just an XML output of the blog posts. The issue is that doing the blog yourself without CMS is more control and better SEO. Doing it with CMS is less control, but easier.
Content Management Systems (CMS) make it easy for non-technical people to update a website, and to allow a much more interactive website experience by supporting discussion groups, and blogs. Either one can be an RSS feed, which is just an XML output of the blog posts. The issue is that doing the blog yourself without CMS is more control and better SEO. Doing it with CMS is less control, but easier.
For many newbies to CMS’s are easily frustrated because they can’t find directions to build exactly what they want. Documentation on a CMS website is much like, and I’ll use the analogy of baking a cake here, the directions that comes on the back of a pre-packed cake mix. If you’re very familiar with the process of baking from a pre-package mix then it could be easy. But if you really wanted put your own spin on baking that cake doing so would mean doing it from scratch and having more control over the process.
The developers of most CMS systems just don’t have the range of total website development so their procedures can be constraining. CMS systems like WordPress are easier to use, but do not have the full SEO flexibility of doing it “by hand.”
