Question: Why do you want to be signed out when searching in Google?
Answer: When checking your rank on Google or doing research through Google searches on your keywords, you want to be ‘signed out.’ Especially if you have downloaded the Google toolbar or have a Gmail account, Google now ‘personalizes’ the search results. It monitors what sites you click on and pushes these higher up the search results in your ‘personalized’ Google.
I have seen companies that do not understand this, that think that their websites are doing ‘great’ on their keywords, as they have clicked many times on the company website. But when they go to a friend’s house or an Internet cafe, they realize that they are doing terribly.
So you need to always look in the top right hand corner of a Google search and make sure it says ‘sign in.’ Paradoxically, if you see ‘sign out’ you are ‘signed in’ and if you see ‘sign in’ you are ‘signed out.’
