Question: Why are keyword metatags not very relevant when developing a keyword matrix is key for ranking purpose. Am I missing something?..where do your keywords show up in ‘page source’ view?
Answer: There is always a lot of confusion around the META KEYWORD tag. The META KEYWORD tag is largely ignored by the major search engines. You can use it if you like, but it probably does nothing.
That said, keywords are very important to Google. First, identify your target keywords. Second, weave them into your target high priority tags like the TITLE, H1, and A HREF tags.
Keywords – woven into high priority tags – matter very much to Google. The META KEYWORD tag does not. That is the difference.
