Question: How specific must keywords and phrases be For example will the following rank the same? Medical Malpractice Lawyer Chicago vs. Chicago Medical Malpractice Lawyer?
Answer: Most of search engine optimization centers on guessing how users will search to find your site. When you’re optimizing for organic search results, you shouldn’t be surprised to find out how much word order impacts your rankings.
It all works on a ‘best matching principle.’ If your customers search for ‘Medical Malpractice Lawyer Chicago’ in that exact order AND you optmize for not just those words but also that EXACT order, then – all things being equal – you will beat out a competitor who has the same words but wrong order.
So try to ‘guess’ the word order used by your customer as well as the words used. But use variations, because probably different people will use different word orders. You are looking for the ones with the higher volumes vs. other word orders.
