Question: Does the text of a H1 or H2 tag show up anywhere or is it only for internal use?
Answer: Yes, the H1 / H2 family is definitely a visible tag. Google likes the header tag family for SEO because they clearly indicate the priority of keywords. For humans, they are visible as bolded text, etc.
You can control the visual look and feel of the H1 / H2 header tag by either using CSS / Style sheets or by nesting them with FONT tags.
