Question: Is it best to focus on just one or two keywords? Or the more the better?
Answer: Focus, focus, focus! One of the biggest beginner mistakes with keywords is to go from no keywords to zillions of keywords. Second, to think that the META KEYWORD tag matters, and will do all your work. (It is generally ignored). The trick to succeeding with keywords and SEO is to focus –
A San Francisco Medical Malpractice attorney, for example, is looking for potential ‘customers’ who are ready to sue their doctors. So a search for ‘Medical Malpractice’ has a lot of volume, but not a clear value. A search for ‘San Francisco Medical Malpractice Lawyer’ has a lot less volume but a great deal of value.
So in this example, they focus on just a few keywords. Then, the trick is to strategically weave them into your website. Start with your home page TITLE tag. That is your seven most important keywords for your entire business. Then use other key tag families such as the H1, H2 tag, etc. Focus, focus, focus, and strategically weave these keywords into each page and into your website design.
LESS IS MORE.
