Question: What is the best way to include all the cities in a particular county without cluttering a website?
Answer: Local searches are very important for so many businesses, and customers often search for all sorts of cities and towns. In the New York metropolitan area, for example, customers might be looking for an SEO firm / SEO consulting and do searches such as –
SEO Consulting New York
SEO Consulting Manhattan
SEO Consulting Bronx
SEO Consulting Brooklyn
There are a couple important strategies here. First, be sure you are included on Google Local with your target keywords in your COMPANY TITLE on Google Local. But Google local is only good for the geographic area in which your business resides. Secondly, on your home page, usually at the bottom, place a long string of your target cities and towns. We actually do this on our own home page for target searches like ‘SEO Training Detroit,’ and even though we aren’t local to those communities, we often show up on page two or so.
For very focused searches, this home page strategy may be enough. Third, for your most important cities and towns, consider placing those terms in the TITLE tag of your home page (e.g. NEW YORK) as well as in the TITLE tags of landing pages that you create for less important cities (e.g. Brooklyn).
Ultimately, to show up on these geographic searches, you have to weave your keywords into your tags, and your geographics are no different.
