Question: You can’t be optimize your sight for everything, but if you focus on a few key keywords, is it possible to get your site near the top of Google results for them?
Answer: I think of keywords like I do about Olympic sports competitions. Choose the one that really fits your style and interests – focus, focus, focus. Sometimes I wonder about those people who become No. 1 in obscure Olympic sports vs. the common ones like swimming, gymnastics, or speed skating. But it is obviously less competitive, and that might be a better choice to bring back the Gold.
Similarly, in SEO. Focus, focus, focus. If you can determine long tail (multi-word) keyword phrases that really target your true customers, then yes it will be easier to dominate these. It is much easier to be No. 1 for ‘San Francisco Medical Malpractice Attorney’ than for ‘San Francisco Attorney’ or ‘Medical Malpractice.’ A big factor in SEO success is keyword focus. Riches are in the niches, as they say!
