Question: Times you may have some controls in your website which are residing on a diff server/domain? Is there are way you can track clicks made from your website to another website. To give an example- a hotel website maye use a third party bookinh engine, how do we track how many vistors aree clicking on the booking engine that is residing on a diff website. Is it possible to track thise through GA? Would the same GA code work or does it have be customised?
Answer: Yes. Incoming traffic from a website to your website will be tracked as a referrer. So look at your referrer data in Analytics. To track clicks FROM your website to another website, such as shopping cart. You need to define an ‘event’ in Analytics. You can also take your tracking code and put that on other websites as well. Go to Google’s Conversion University (http://www.google.com/support/conversionuniversity/?hl=en) and look for the videos on ‘Event Tracking’ and ‘Ecommerce Tracking.’
