Question: On my site, there are a lot of images, can I tag them in any way or should the highlight always be on Keywords?
Answer: The first step in a successful SEO strategy is always keywords. Brainstorm your basic keywords, use the free tools such as the primary Google keywords tool, and organize / prioritize your keywords. Once you have that, you will need to weave your keywords throughout your HTML. How do images work in this process?
First, Google can not read images. It can’t read FLASH either, by the way. But with images in HTML you have a great ally: The ALT attribute. Here is the syntax for an image:
<img src="../images/wedding-flowers.gif" alt="" height="140" width="125" border="0">
Google has only a tiny clue in this image – that the name of the GIF image is "wedding-flowers" but let’s assume that the web author is seeking to optimize for the keyword / keyphrase "Wedding Flowers in San Francisco"
To give Google a strong hint, for each and every image on your website, define the ALT attribute as follows:
<img src="../images/wedding-flowers.gif" alt="Wedding Flowers in San Francisco" height="140" width="125" border="0">
Using the ALT attribute is (yet another) way to boost your visibility to Google. It cannot see images, but it can read the ALT attribute! And remember to name your images with real names, like ‘wedding.gif’ not ‘image25r.gif’ That helps, too!
