Question: Is it more beneficial to spend more money with Google and Yahoo for PPC or start with Bing for small business?
Answer: Willie Sutton, the famous bank robber, was asked why he robbed banks, and he replied, "Because that’s where the money is." As SEO people and PPC (Pay-per-click) advertisers, the same is true. Place your SEO effort and your PPC where the searches are, and where the value is.
For almost every market, Google has the lion’s share of search. ClickZ (http://www.clickz.com/) is one of the better sources of information on search share, as is your own Google Analytics account. But Google will typically be 70% or more of any incoming search volume.
That said, you must identify your high value keywords and in PPC where the high ROI is. Yahoo and/or Bing may play well in terms of value (if not volume). Finally, what will work to get you to the top of Google will almost certainly get you to the top of Yahoo and Bing – so SEO for Google and the others will likely follow.
